Best Things I Ate in November

This November we did a lot of traveling home so I didn’t get to cook as much as I would have liked to. Even though it was sooo nice to cook in my kitchen in Alabama for Thanksgiving though!

I love a good Black Bean Soup and I love cheese! So when we were home for the weekend in Birmingham and went to Shoul Creek for dinner, I got this amazing Black Bean and White Cheddar Soup and then for the main entree I had the Shepherd’s Pie.

I finally got to make my French Onion Soup for the boys on Wednesday night with Beef Wellington using vension tenderloin from John’s latest hunting trip.

John and I spent the night in Nashville on our way to his cousin’s wedding one weekend and we tried out Merchants Restaurant on Broadway. John was a little surprised when I ordered these Duck Fat Tater Tots. But for those of you who have cooked with or had duck fat you know how much flavor it can add to something, they were served with chipotle mayo, a bernaise sauce, and ketchup. I also ordered fried green tomatoes with a pimento cheese and spicy pepper jam. For my entree, I had the Sweet Tea Pork Tenderloin with a Bourbon Jus and pimento cheese grits and molasses glazed green beans.

I know I talk about Surin at least twice a month because I haven’t found  a sushi place up here but I think I have come as close as I can at Wasabi on 82nd. I had the Tommy Roll Californi Roll with Spicy Tuna and Chop Chop Roll with Soft shell crab and spicy mayo. And yes this spicy mayo was the exact same Surin has so that might have made this restaurant the one for me just for that reason.
And lastly, I got to try out one of the newer (or it is for me) restaurants in Birmingham- Five. I had one of their nightly specials the Duck Tacos – Braised Duck and Spanish Rice. Yum Yum! The best part was spending the evening though with our best friends who we miss dearly!
Can’t wait to try some more amazing food out this month!
