Christmas is almost here!!

As far back as I can remember Christmas music would be playing while Dad and I bring the Christmas tree and decorations down from the attic. We assemble the tree, lay out all the ornaments, and then put them all on the tree. Mama is decorating the rest of the house until it is time to put up our Mother/Daughter ornaments. We started collecting these Hallmark ornaments about 5 or 6 years ago. Some we laugh about because they are an exact replica of how are relationship is and the others are just well…plain tacky. But none the less I got a phone call around the first week of December saying our yearly ornament came in the mail. She wanted it to be a surprise so she told me not to look on their website to see what it was of. And yes all of you who are saying I bet she looked…guess what I didn’t. Truth be told I forgot about it which is a good thing because I am the girl who will try and figure out surprises early. Mama finally had to stop putting gift tags on our Christmas presents because I would unwrap them to see what I got and wrap them back up. But when we went to Georgia a few weekends ago Mama surprised me with our new ornament. How perfect for us!

My sweet foodie pen pal Katie from October posted a survey recently and I thought it’d be something fun to do since 99.9% of my posts are about food.

1. Eggnog or hot chocolate? I am going to say neither, but I love some hot apple cider!!

2. Colored lights on tree/house or white? I grew up with colored lights but since I have been married we have white lights.

3. Do you hang mistletoe? No but again we had one growing up so I want to find one (it’s actually on my list to buy)

4. When do you hang your decorations up? The weekend after Thanksgiving usually but this year we were a little late (aka last weekend)

5. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)? Probably my Mama’s Seven Layer Salad it just has always been a Holiday staple.

6. Favorite holiday memory as a child? See above…And going to the Nutcracker. I think I have been over 15 times. I love it, my parents are tired of it and thought that they would pass the tradition onto John. Too bad that is one tradition he decided to forgo.

7. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? Well growing up we would open up one gift on Christmas Eve and the rest in the morning. Now that I am married and we have to travel back and forth between Alabama and Georgia we open all gifts from the Halls Christmas Eve (at least we did last year and will this year).

8. How do you decorate your Christmas tree? Like this! About 40% are my ornaments from when I was younger (hence the 20 million Nutcracker and Beauty & the Beast ones) and then the rest are mine and John’s. A tradition ever since we started dating was to buy a Christmas ornament for any trips we went on or anything to remind us of a memory we have shared together.

9. Snow? Love it or dread it? Well being from the South and not getting it a lot, I love it! Now that we are up in Indianapolis for John’s job we will see if I like it after the winter.

10. Real tree or fake tree? Real nothing beats the smell. And I have no problem cleaning up all the pine needles. It is totally worth it to me!

11. What is your favorite holiday dessert? Cherry pie!

12. What is your favorite tradition? One that I didn’t mention earlier is watching All I Want for Christmas!

13. What tops your tree? Sadly nothing right now but I do want to get a big bow!

14.Do you prefer giving or receiving? I love giving because I actually Christmas shop year round and have a tub of stuff that sits there until December 25th. Luckily I have never forgotten the gifts that sit there for a while.

15. What is your favorite Christmas song? Defintely a tie between “Baby It’s Cold Outside” and the cheesy Mariah Carey “All I Want for Christmas”

16. Candy canes? Nope

17. Favorite Christmas movie? All I Want for Christmas

18. Do you have a Christmas morning tradition? This year and last we woke up in our home in Alabama, ate breakfast and opened our stockings at the Halls then traveled to Georgia to do Christmas with my parents, aunt, and uncles.

19. Do you prefer to shop on-line or at the mall? Normally I like to shop at stores. Standing in lines and being in traffic during this time doesn’t seem to bother me (non-holiday times I can’t stand it-weird I know), but between all the traveling we have been doing lately I have been blowing up the online sales.

20. What is on your Christmas wish list? Kitchenaid Pasta Attachment, Cookbooks, Winter Clothes, and Decor for the Home

Thanks Katie for sharing this with me!

Love your answers! Oh, Indy gets more snow then we do here in KY, I hope you continue to love it too! And I have yet to see the Nutcracker. Isn’t that terrible? I think it’s playing around here pretty soon, I need to go see it!
