Give me some brown sugga!
So you know that list of things I used to hate but now love? Like salmon, collard greens, pickles – okay so I still loathe pickles. But bourbon was on it for a while. I used to like it in college but finally couldn’t stomach the stuff or the smell of it randomly one day.
Well that was until I had a Brown Sugga. A few months ago John and I went to the restaurant Acre in Auburn. They have specialty cocktails that change with the seasons so you knew we were excited. Of course John had to get a bourbon drink because that’s his fave. Where as I stick to vodka, tequila, gin, pretty much all the other stuff. But when I saw his drink had fig preserves in it. I was intrigued.
So I had a little swig and then told the bartender that I needed my own. I think John’s jaw dropped a little. I couldn’t tell if it was a look of surprise or excitement. I don’t think it has really sunk in yet that now he has to share his bourbon collection with me but oh well.
After finally perfecting it – both of us have come to the conclusion that this is a sweet bourbon drink. So if you are more of a plain bourbon drinker then you might want to top it off with a splash more at the end. Let me know what you think!

Preserves and jams are such a neat trick for a cocktail, aren’t they? You can change something up really fast that way.
